1. Data Gathering
Our investment-grade lighting system audits commonly include a wide range of data gathering, including any building plans the owner might have on file, an identification of both exterior and interior fixture identities and wattages, consideration of the lighting needs of people, and whether they are currently being met, a historical power consumption and cost analysis, and a thorough understanding of the business dynamics and how and when power is consumed vis-à-vis those dynamics.
The Building
It all starts with the building itself, and we begin by obtaining any plans the Asset Manager might have on file. If none exist, no problem … we’ll draw the building ourselves. Special physical elements that could become opportunities are identified, such as skylights, windows, etc.
The Equipment
Then we do a space-by-space, fixture-by-fixture lighting system audit, identifying precisely the fixtures currently in the building, what their wattages are, their locations, and hours of operation. Opportunities are also identified as to areas currently under-lighted, over-lighted, and where the absence of controls is resulting in wasted power consumption, and therefore higher power bills.
The Electrons
Are the ‘on’ hours of the lighting systems aligned with the operating hours of the business? Current electricity costs? Inefficient, non-lighting equipment might also be captured, as today’s control systems can be easily expanded to control these systems, be they HVAC, plug loads, refrigeration, or process machinery.
The Operators
Is there enough light for the employees currently? Too much? Is it the right quality of light? Color? These and other questions are answered, as we make our way through the auditing process, observing and asking questions of employees as we make our rounds. Employee-centricity is a hallmark of ours, and we take pride in ultimately bringing a series of lighting solutions that not only result in lower costs, but improved lighting.
